What is the Gottman 7 Principles Program?
Dr.'s John and Julie Schwartz Gottman are co-founders of The Gottman Institute, in Seattle, WA. For the past 40 years, psychologist and University of Washington professor emeritus John Gottman has conducted research on all facets of marriage and committed relationships- including communication, marital friendship, conflict management, and parenting issues. Through the work of The Gottman Institute, John and Julie Gottman have developed an approach that not only supports and repairs troubled marriages and committed relationships, but also strengthens happy ones.
The Gottmans continue to teach workshops and presentations to couples and professionals around the world in order to share their research-based findings on what makes relationships succeed.
In 2013 The Gottman Institute began training lay people and professionals to present this highly useful material to the public. Dr. Beth Schmit was one of that first group of people trained to deliver the 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work workshop!
Important Note: The 7 Principles Workshop is not couples therapy, and is not intended to be a substitute for couples therapy or counseling.
The workshop is appropriate for couples who are interested in improving and strengthening their marriage or partnership, and for learning the key skills to enhance emotional intelligence.
- The Gottman 7 Principles Program is presented in a workshop format (don't worry, there is no forced "group sharing") where you and your partner will learn how to strengthen your connection, facilitate dialogue about perpetual problems, and improve your communication.
Gottman Educator Dr. Beth Schmit currently offers the Gottman 7 Principles Program in several formats at locations around Portland, Oregon & SW Washington. Check the Registration page for current offerings and dates.
